Welcome to Free to Be

“I know Muslim women must be doing great things and have done great things, but I don’t know what they are or how they got there.  I want to know more about that diversity, the range of stuff that is possible for someone like me to end up doing.

”Growing from conversations about the needs and desires of young women in the UK, I Can Be She works to change negative perceptions and empower Muslim women by celebrating their experiences and achievements.

Through our interactive website we explore Muslim women in history alongside their role in society today, as well as offering resources for advice and support in their daily lives. Women all over the UK are getting involved in our on and offline exhibitions, which share the stories of amazing Muslim women through film, photography, art and sound. All this is part of a bigger organisation, Maslaha, which supports Muslims in the UK through educational resources, health guidance and cultural exhibitions.

You can find out more by visiting , where there’s information, supportive resources, and our films of Muslim women talking about their lives. And check out to see our I Can Be She exhibition, which celebrates the lives of Muslim women through many different art forms…
